Fentanyl Transdermal System CII

The Fentanyl Transdermal System CII is a revolutionary new system of delivering relief of chronic pain without relying on painful injections of complicated pills. These patches are two layers of plastic that contains a power narcotic called fentanyl suspended in a gel. The patch is then attached directly to the skin, where it releases a constant amount of the drug for 72 hours.

Unfortunately a problem was discovered in one group of patches from a certain manufacturer that could cause potentially fatal side effects. This prompted Janssen Pharmaceutica to recall all patches from lot #0327192 in February of 2004 and to conduct further investigations on all batches from that manufacturer.

Anyone who has the 75 microgram per hour patches from lot numbers 0327192, 0327193, 0327294, 0327295 and 0330362 should contact their doctors immediately. The seals on these patches can fail which may expose patients to potentially fatal levels of fentanyl. Faulty seals can also reduce the amount of drug absorbed by the body which can cause extremely unpredictable withdrawal symptoms.
